The Sharadchandra Pawar College of Engineering, Organized “Two day Workshop on “ADVANCES IN INTERNET OF THINGS” Sponsored by Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune during 07/10/2016 to 08/10/2016.

Internet of Things is a new revolution of the Internet. A world where the real, digital and the virtual are converging to create smart environments that make energy, transport, cities and many other areas more intelligent. A device become a smart device is called IOT. Now a days there are many android and server based application. In this system, value of sensor (e.g. temperature sensor, motion sensor, accelerometer sensor etc.) will be shown on GUI or web server or android application through wireless communication and device will be controlled automatically. Device will be operated on GSM/GPRS.

All the faculty and staff members actively participated in the event to make it a grand success.

About workshop:

(What is Internet of Things?)

It’s a global network infrastructure, linking physical and virtual objects using cloud computing, data capture, and network communications. It allows devices to communicate with each other, access information on the Internet, store and retrieve data, and interact with users, creating smart, pervasive and always-connected environments.

The Internet of Things (IoT), sometimes referred to as the Internet of Objects, will change everything— including ourselves. This may seem like a bold statement, but consider the impact the Internet already has had on education, communication, business, science, government, and humanity. Clearly, the Internet is one of the most important and powerful creations in all of human history. Now consider that Internet of Things represents the next evolution of the Internet, taking a huge leap in its ability to gather, analyse, and distribute data that we can turn into information, knowledge, and, ultimately, wisdom. In this context, Internet of Things becomes immensely important.

Duration: It’s a Two day workshop from 07/10/2016 to 08/10/2016. In this Two-day course, student gained valuable hands-on experience.

Session 1: Keynote session on IoT

Session 2:  IoT Future scope in real world

Session 3: Exploring Raspberry Pi

  • A brief overview of the Raspberry Pi 2, Architecture, Features, Advantages and scope of use.
  • Raspberry Pi 2 and IoT.
  • Raspberry Pi 2 in robotics.
  • Supporting Operating Systems for Raspberry Pi 2.

Session 4:  Operating System Installation (Hands on).

  • Preparing SD Card for Raspberry Pi 2.
  • Installation of Rasbian OS on SD Card using NOOBS

Day 2: ( Raspberry Pi 2 )

Session 5: Working with Raspberry Pi 2 (Hands on).

  • Network Configuration
  • GPIO Programming Introduction.

Session 6: GPIO Programming (Hands on).

  • GPIO Programming on Raspberry Pi 2 using different simulators.

Session 7: Clustering Raspberry Pi 2 (Hands on).

  • Preparing Raspberry Pi 2 nodes for Cluster.
  • Installation of MPICH software, that allows for multi-processing communication between computers.
  • Setup of python environment on RPI2 for multi-processing communication between computers using MPI4PY package.

Session 8: Clustering Raspberry Pi 2  (Hands on).

  • Installation of nmap.
  • Configuration of Raspberry Pi 2 for Cluster using MPI library.

Execution of sample python program on cluster.
